At the request of our blog leader, I submit to you the cocktail invented on the occasion of ‘Malebranche Day’ – a workshop hosted at UCSD this past November.
The Search After Vermouth
Equal parts: sweet vermouth, dry vermouth, gin, pineapple juice.
Stir, serve on ice. Drink. (Optional: ensure to direct the love excited by the pleasure of its consumption to God, not to the drink itself…)
Here are some other potential mixed drinks (without recipes) that a colleague of mine and I came up with (not all are early modern specifically):
Hume’s Constant Concoction
A Tanquerey Concerning Human Understanding
Etienne Bonnot de Cognac
Mead-itations on First Philosophy
The New Or-gin-on
Über Gin and Bedeutung
On Menthe and Reference
Goldschlager Der Arithmatik
Seven and Seven Strictures on Similarity
Two Grog-mas of Empiricism
Ouzo as Meaning
Thunderbird and Object
The State of Nature. Must be served (solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and) short.
If you drink too many State of Natures, you end up in the war of all against all.
